2008 Olivenhain Gardens

In 2008, the Encinitas Garden Festival & Tour visited Olivenhain, where properties are a little larger, and residents enjoy an inland microclimate cooled by ocean breezes coming up the river valley. The Marketplace was held on the grounds of the historic Olivenhain Meeting Hall, built around 1895, by the community’s original German settlers.

Tour goers strolled down a mile long route that felt like a country road. Along the way, they visited gardens that ranged from 10-acre horse property to a lovely courtyard garden, a waterwise sanctuary to a grassy, shaded yard whose large pond is frequented by the abundant variety of native birds.
